Bourjois happens to be one of my all-time favourite brands on the high street. Having been quite the fan of their Healthy Mix Serum Foundation for a long time along with their Rouge Edition Lipsticks it seemed only natural that I would want to try out the Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks that were released back in May.
The Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks arrive in six beautiful shades which all appeal to me in their own way. The first shade that I have purchased is Peach Club which verges on a rather deep peach slash orange; it most certainly is not a nude shade by any means and is actually quite bright once applied. In my image above this does fail to come across a little in terms of just how bright it is therefore I do think it is worth checking this one out in store; particularly if you’re a little unsure of a bright bold lip. The same applies for all of them really as they all are rather bright shades which is the only thing I do find a little disappointing about the whole range; the fact that there are no nude shades is disheartening as those would be my usual choice however I can but hope that Bourjois will release some more shades to the line in the coming months.
The formula of these lipsticks is really easy to work with which makes applying them an absolute dream. They are incredibly soft and creamy and set quickly however there is plenty of time to work with the application before this happens. I have noticed that even after an hour of wearing Peach Club that the texture of the product on my lips still felt quite creamy and moisturising which was a new experience for me as most matte lip products I have tried do tend to feel very matte on the lips.
Whilst the product can easily transfer onto cups which takes wear time down quite quickly I do find that these lipsticks hold up pretty well. Without eating or drinking I think you’re set for a quite a few hours before any minor touch ups are needed and even then the wear is spread pretty evenly so the appearance still looks very nice. In terms of how moisturising these are I would say that they are one of the better matte lip products that I have tried, however they can sink into dry lines if you’re not careful so I do recommend using a bit of lip balm beforehand like I do with pretty much every lip product these days.
Personally if you’ve being looking to invest in a nice matte lipstick and have being considering higher end brands I would most definitely try these first; they’re pretty awesome. Overall I’m extremely impressed with this range and cannot wait to pick up another shade to test out next pay day; if you have a particular recommendation for me then I would love to hear it.
