The Singles Guide to Valentine’s Day

The Singles Guide to Valentine's Day

Each year Christmas and New Year have barely come to an end when you start to see Valentine’s Day being promoted everywhere. I personally quite like Valentine’s Day, however I appreciate that it isn’t for everybody and that people do tend to have quite emotional opinions on the topic. Whether you like it or not, if you are single on Valentine’s it can feel a little bit miserable, especially if it feels like everybody around you is loved up and floating on cloud 9. Whilst I am not single at the time of writing this, let’s just say that things are not as good as they once were, therefore I can be rather certain that my Valentine’s Day will be spent alone with my cat; I also have exams so they should keep me occupied.

This got me thinking though, just because you are single on Valentine’s Day shouldn’t mean that you should be miserable, it should be the perfect opportunity to take some time for you, your mum, your sister or maybe even your best friend and show yourself and them the love that you and they deserve. I have picked out a few things from my own collection of products and accessories that make me happy. They cheer me up a bit when feeling low and help to make me feel better about myself when I head off out into town, whether it’s for a day of shopping, running errands or going out for coffee tea with a friend.

My first choice for anybody would be perfume. Perfume is for me probably the key, if you smell you good, you feel good and we all want to feel good and look good no matter what time of the year. I have picked out two which are from completely different spectrum’s, one being a Primark perfume for £2 and the other being Chloe Love Story which I picked up in the Boxing Day sales. The Primark fragrance is a very new discovery, in fact, I only discovered this on Monday evening after I had finished uni and I had been to the dentist, I popped in before I headed home and found this little gem for just £2. It is quite sweet in scent and it doesn’t last a particularly long time, however for a quick spritz for when out and about (and if you break it or loose it then it is not the end of the world) then I could not recommend it more. For such a small price I am really, really impressed. I am tempted to pick up a few others so that I can put a couple in the numerous bags that I have lying around. Of course, Chloe Love Story is much more expensive and luxurious, hence why I picked this up when I did as I wouldn’t have been able to justify this at full price. Perfume makes such a lovely gift for anybody, it can be sometimes hard to get right, although if you know the person well then I think you would be able to pick something just right.

You can also never go wrong with a lipstick, this can instantly lift your mood and your make up look. I picked out the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Opium Noir which is a gorgeous deep berry red which is so incredibly beautiful to wear. I purchased this last year in a limited edition Christmas gift set, whereby in all honesty I haven’t really worn it very much since which is a shame; it is about time I pulled it back out whilst we still have a bit of the winter season left. Any lipstick will do though, I personally find myself more partial to a nude lipstick than bright bold statement colours, however just once in a while they do add that extra ‘something’ to your look and confidence.

As a nice little treat for mum this year (and you) I cannot recommend the Rifle Paper Co L’Occitane collaboration products more. L’Occitane is a beautiful brand in its own right with some insanely good bath, shower and body products, I just love their Almond Shower Gel! With the addition of the Rifle Paper Co designs on some of their best-selling products I think that this just makes the limited edition gifts that extra bit special this year. I posted all about the collaboration earlier on this week so please do head on over to read more about it. Everybody deserves a good pamper, they make you feel fresh, healthy and ready to take on the challenges of the next day.

My last pick is from Daniel Wellington. In the past I have featured this brand a number of times and I have loved every item dearly. The Classic Petite Ashfield* is the most beautiful design, in which just for this Valentine’s Day, Daniel Wellington are offering this gorgeous watch and additional leather strap in one of their special offers under the Timeless Tribute to Love promotion. A watch makes a perfect gift for so many people, you can’t really go wrong. If you purchase a leather watch on its own you will get a charm included without any extra cost. The charm is so beautiful and does come as part of the offer with the Ashfield watch too. If you purchase the Ashfield Classic Petite along with the Sheffield strap you will then receive the charm, this same offer also applies to the Classic Petite Melrose which is also one of my favourites! Daniel Wellington have also offered an additional 15% off your order if you use my code ‘THEJULYROSE‘, so it is worth having a look to see if anything tickles your fancy for either yourself, mum or your sister.

Other things that you can do this Valentine’s Day:

  • Have a coffee date with a friend
  • Go for afternoon tea with your mum and sister
  • Take a day trip and eat out for lunch
  • Find a new recipe and cook with friends, glasses of prosecco will surely help any mishaps in the kitchen
  • Watch a movie and order take out
  • Run a nice bath and set up Netflix and candles

Love comes in a variety of different ways, it is not just between two people who are in love. It is between two sisters, a mother and their daughter, that love is timeless and never ending. I guess what I wanted to end this post is with that despite you may be being single this Valentine’s Day, you’re never actually alone, you’re never really ‘single’. There is always somebody there.
