Well, 2019 certainly crept up on us rather quickly didn’t it. Happy New Year to all of you! I have to be honest, my new year has kicked off quite nicely, although I will admit that I am currently sat on this rather chilly Sunday morning wondering where the last 13 days have gone. Work has started off busy and I am sure that has set the tone for the rest of the year, which somewhat explains why this post is going up a few days later than intended. All in all, it has been a good start to the New Year and I am looking forward to what 2019 brings.
Like any year, I have in my mind a few goals/plans that I would like to achieve this year. Of course, I am a realist, I know not everything will always be reached. For instance, how many times have I said that I am going to quit biting my nails? That has been a resolution for the last ten years or more and guess what, it is on my list again this year. Having said that, maybe, just maybe I will reach this goal in 2019.
So, I have set myself just a few goals for this year which in my mind are achievable if I put my mind to it.
In a way, this isn’t a goal as such as it is inevitable (touch wood) that I will be qualifying as a Solicitor later on this year. That being said, after a very long time studying at university doing my degree, conversion courses and then further professional courses to finally get to where I want to be, it will be such a relief to know that I have finally made it.
This year I really do want to become more focused on my blog and ensure that I dedicate more time to it. As many of you know, my job outside of blogging is extremely busy and it consumes a lot of my time during the week. It is hard to find a good balance come the weekend as I cannot then spend it blogging as I have other things that need to be done. It is about finding the right balance whereby in truth, I haven’t quite managed to do yet. I am hopeful that this year I can finally crack it and produce more frequent content without compromising on the quality.
In the first week of January, I opened my Help to Buy ISA. I had been meaning to do it for months but hadn’t quite got around to it. Whilst it is not the answer to getting on the property ladder, it will certainly help come the time. Therefore, I am planning on saving as much as possible so that I can not only increase the amount in this specific account but also increase my general savings too. On a side note, if you want to open one of these but haven’t opened one as of yet, then I would recommend doing it fairly soon as they will no longer be available to new customers as of November 2019.
This was a goal last year also, although I am afraid to say that I didn’t quite achieve it. Whilst I did read last year, I didn’t read very much, and I have felt quite disappointed with myself about this. Like last year, I have once again set myself a goal on Goodreads and I am happy to report that I am now on my second book of the year. At the moment I am reading Bird Box by Josh Malerman and it is brilliant, I also really enjoyed the Netflix adaptation of this at the end of Christmas; I would highly recommend this if you haven’t yet seen it.
I need to not mention this too much since I have discussed it a number of times in the past. It is a never-ending story consisting of my battle to leave my nails alone vs dealing with my coping mechanism for stress. I bite my nails when I am stressed; nine times out of ten not realising that I am doing it. I need to find a better way of coping with it so that my nails don’t take the brunt of the damage as I honestly love painting my nails and making them look nice. When they look nice I feel nice and when they look shorty and stumpy I feel the same. It is silly, but it can knock my confidence quite a bit.
It is a term which I heard a lot of last year, whereby over the last few months it is a concept which I have grown a lot more interested in. Just before Christmas, I had a big wardrobe clear-out resulting in taking to the charity shop so many clothes that I no longer wore or even reached for, this included several handbags and accessories. Having since read more about the concept, I am convinced that I could have whittled it down even more than I did. This year I will be looking to purchase more key pieces that I can combine together to form a number of different outfits without having my wardrobe bursting at the seams.
