It only seems like five minutes ago when I ordered the Cult Beauty X Sali Hughes collaboration box. When I came to sit down and edit these photos I had the May calendar staring back at me. I must admit, I debated on whether posting this or not as it doesn’t feel right writing in June but with a May calendar in the image, I hope you can ignore it, I am trying my best to.
I found out about this box via Sali’s Instagram and I was so excited when I heard about it. I love Sali! I really enjoy reading her column on The Guardian and I just, in general, find her really helpful and down to earth. The Cult Beauty box was probably the most expensive beauty product I have ever purchased at £130 (it was worth just under £220) and I did have to think long and hard about it. Anything over £100 just makes me think ouchie. The good thing is that it had six full-size products inside and they’re good ones at that, especially when I had wanted to try five of them anyway. The sixth I had already had and enjoyed so I was happy to get it again.
It is now sold out as one would expect, I think it flew off the shelves at Cult Beauty but I am hardly surprised, it was a very good box. I always look out for boxes like this as whilst initially, they may be expensive, you do save quite a bit. You have to weigh up what is inside, is it worth it for you and your skin needs and obviously if you can justify the price or not.
The box contained some amazing beauty products which I am looking forward to trying out over the next few months. Inside there were the following products:
- Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream (50ml)
- Bella Freud Ginsberg is God Candle – Fig Leaf & Tomato (190g)
- The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser (50ml)
- Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel (5 treatments)
- Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil (30ml)
- IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Illumination SPF50+ (32ml)
The candle smells lovely I have to say, it is very strong in itself and that is without it being lit; I’ll be interested to see how well it burns and how long it lasts. Although, I think I am going to save this for when I move house as it’ll keep for a while. The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser is also really nice. I have used this before and enjoyed it quite a bit. It is a great balm cleanser which works well for taking off makeup, I only wish it was in a bigger size as I remember getting through this quite quickly.
As for everything else, I haven’t yet opened those products but I do have high hopes for them as I know that they are highly praised by many.
The one thing I would mention is the issue around Drunk Elephant. Over the last few weeks and during the Black Lives Matter movement I became aware of the way Drunk Elephant was handling the situation. I won’t go into detail as there is a lot of info online, particularly Instagram, however it goes without saying that they did not come across very well at all. I am now reluctant to spend my money on their products, despite wanting to try them (I have a few already) but this all came to light after I purchased this box. There is no doubt that some of their products are great so it is a real shame to see the company behaving in the way that they do on social media. Nobody is perfect, no company is perfect I am sure but this is not the first time I have seen questionable comments/actions from Drunk Elephant so I do now think twice before highlighting them further on here.
Overall though, I am happy with the contents of the box and I am thoroughly looking forward to testing everything out.
