My last beauty empties was a couple of weeks ago and now I am sitting down to write Beauty Empties – Recently Recycled #29. I can’t believe I’m nearly at 30 posts of my beauty trash so to speak, and that’s before I started counting. There are more on here, trust me. I sat down over the weekend and took a quick snap of some of the most recent products I have finished up in the last few months and thought that I would quickly sit down tonight and write up the post.
Since being back at work I have started to accumulate more empties and my basket is once again full. I got right on top of it during lockdown too! Anyhow, I do digress somewhat! Let’s get straight to it with a six mini-reviews of some of my most recent used up products.
Firstly, the Co-Lab Dry Shampoo. Now, I am very loyal to Batiste, however, I thought I would try something new and I’m afraid I will be going straight back to my Batiste. I felt that this dry shampoo didn’t really cut it for me, it made my hair feel stiff and I don’t think it masked the greasiness very well at all. On a plus, there was less of a white cast in comparison to Batiste but I don’t find this to be too much of an issue for me anyway being blonde and once I have brushed it through it all looks fine. Overall, this is a shame as I wanted to like the Co-Lab Dry Shampoo but unfortunately, it just didn’t cut the mustard.
The Burts Bees Citrus and Ginger Body Wash (once gifted, since repurchased) has been used up to the very end. I have to say, I loved this one and I would purchase it again in the future too. Citrus scents are some of my all-time favourites and I find myself naturally navigating towards them. This is a bit more pricey at £10 for 350ml but it is a lovely little treat and it does last quite a long time too. At the moment I can’t see that this is widely available unfortunately, there seem to be more products in their baby range when it comes to actual body washes rather than anything else which is a shame as this is really nice, some other scents would be great!
Back in 2017 I made my first order with Glossier and let me tell you, it is high time I made a new one. I recently finished up the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser and I must admit, I do kind of miss it. I used this as a pre-cleanse to remove make up for the most part, although sometimes I would elect to use it in the morning. This was a nice cleanser which did a good job at removing makeup with no irritation to my eyes at all. It was hydrating as it contains a key hydrating ingredient such as glycerin and it was also quite moisturising. This contains antioxidants in the form of rose water although I can’t really recall it smelling strong of rose. In truth, mine was a little out of date by the time I finished it but it still worked fine! I would re-purchase in the future. The next product I made my way through was the Antipodes Ananda Gentle Toner which was in the most gorgeous brown glass spray bottle. The spray in itself wasn’t the finest which was a downside to the product itself, I have tried much better. I did love the packaging though, I am tempted to save the bottle for something else but at present, I am not sure what I could use it for. This is an antioxidant toner which I used daily, on more than one occasion. In truth, it is hard to tell how well this worked as an antioxidant, but in terms of hydration, I didn’t really notice any difference, therefore, I wouldn’t purchase this product in the future. That being said, I am using a few other products from Antipodes at the moment which I do like. Back to the toner, this contains gluconolactone which is a type of PHA acid making it very gentle; it is also an antioxidant. This product contained quite a few ingredients I had never heard of before, for instance, mamaku black fern which is thought to contribute towards skin cell renewal. Antipodes is a brand which formulates its products completely free from parabens, silicones, mineral oils and a whole list of other things. If this is something you’re into then it is well worth checking them out.
Moving onto Indeed Labs Vitamin C24. This finally made its way into my empties. Now, I wanted to love this because generally speaking, I enjoy Indeed Labs products, however, what let me down on this was the texture. It was my biggest bugbear by far and it is the reason I will not repurchase. This is a cream serum, the word cream being important here as it is not a traditional serum at all. It is a paste, I did not like it. I didn’t like the way it sat in my fingers after I had applied it, the feeling also made me feel strange. It just was not for me. It is a shame as it seemed to work well for me, although I do recall my face stinging sometimes when I applied it, but that could have easily been me compromising my skin barrier. On a more positive note, I have seen that Indeed Labs are coming out with a new Vitamin C product so hopefully, this will be better for me. This product is formulated with 22% ascorbic acid which is a stable form of vitamin C which of course helps to protect the skin from environmental damage. It also claims to be hydrating but I saw and felt no evidence of that in my experience of using it. The formula on a positive note is stable which means it will not oxidize like many other vitamin c products. I personally will not purchase this again but I am glad that I tried it out.
Finally, the Estee Lauder DayWear Eye Cooling Anti-Oxidant Moisture Gel Cream (and breathe) was yet another eye cream that I had expectations for and yet again, it was another that left me feeling underwhelmed. Now don’t get me wrong, it was OK and it was more hydrating than others I have recently used and it was cooling to apply but, that’s just it. It was OK. I am still on the lookout for something which makes a difference, although I am pretty resigned to the fact that this does not exist. The first ingredient after water is dimethicone which is a silicone that forms a protective barrier and makes the skin silky smooth, it also helps fill in fine lines and wrinkles although this is of course temporary. I would use this in the future as I know full well I have another mini one somewhere as it was contained in a gift set I picked up. As I said, it is hydrating to an extent, it just didn’t wow me.
So there we have it, six more empties in an absolute sea of beauty products.
