The Goodreads Tag

Goodreads Tag

Aside from beauty products and clothes I have a huge passion for the world of literature. Books for me came long before any lipstick therefore they play a big part of my life. I still remember the day I first read Harry Potter and where I was at the time, it was within minutes I was was whipped into a world full of the dark arts, butter beer and dragons! I’m quite keen to take part in this Goodreads tag in which I was kindly tagged by Hayley from Water Painted Dreams, thank you Hayley!

What was the last book you marked as read?

The last book I finished was Eeny Meeny by M. J. Arlidge which is a crime thriller released earlier on this year. The story revolves around the killer who takes two hostages on a number of occasions and instructs them that the only way they will be freed is if one kills the other with an oh so conveniently placed gun in the room containing one bullet; cheerful.

What are you currently reading?

At the moment I’m currently reading two books which is pretty unheard of for me. I will never have two books on the go as I always like to finish one before I start another so I’m not entirely sure what has happened here. To answer the question I’m reading A Clash of Kings by George R. R. Martin and More Than This by Patrick Ness.

What was the last book you marked as to read?

The last book I marked as to read over on Goodreads was I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes. This is actually a Richard and Judy title from their summer book club which they run each year, Eeny Meeny is also one of them.

What do you plan to read next?

I’m torn between I Am Pilgrim and The Goldfinch by Donna Tart as I have heard so much about this author that I’m just dying to start something by her. My book shelf is rather full of books I haven’t yet read so I have plenty to keep me going before I have to buy any new ones. Upon reflection I don’t own many books that I’ve read in the past as most of these now do go to the charity shops, I just don’t have the room for them which is a shame however it is nice to know that somebody else will enjoy them as much as I have.

Do you use the star rating system?

I do try to when I remember, I often update on my phone and find it harder to navigate compared to the desktop version.

Are you doing a 2014 reading challenge?

Last year I took part in a reading challenge and managed to complete it however I had to go and have a look at this as I couldn’t remember if I was or not. As it happens it would appear that I am indeed taking part in a 2014 reading challenge, however this is a little optimistic at 20 books which once upon a time would have been a breeze for me but these days I never seem to have as much time. So far I have read five books of my twenty, I’m going to blame Game of Thrones on this as it is taking me a really long time to read for some reason.

Do you have a wishlist?

No not at all, the only list I have is a ‘to read’ list which I guess can be interpreted as the same type of thing.

What book do you want to buy next?

As I have already mentioned I shouldn’t be buying any more books because I’m buying them quicker than I can read them at the moment however I have to say The Golem and the Djinni by Helene Wecker has caught my eye on more than one occasion at work.

Do you have any favourite quotes?

I have so many quotes that I like for a variety of reasons, here are just a few of them.

Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light – Albus Dumbledore – Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals – Sirius Black – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

So many books, so little time – Frank Zappa

Who are your favourite authors?

For me J K Rowling will always be my favourite author, it somehow feels a cliche to say that but I was 11 years old when I first read Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone of which for the next seven years or so I continued to grow up with Harry, Ron and Hermoine. Those books took up a huge part of my childhood, they stole my heart and captivated me in a way no book ever has since. Aside from J K Rowling I don’t feel as though I can claim any loyalty to any other author really, I’ve read so many books from so many authors it is hard for me to pinpoint a definite favourite.

Have you joined any groups?

I’m part of the Bloggers Bookshelf Group however to be honest I don’t really use it. I’m not one to share with others my thoughts on books that much as I find it hard to express my thoughts and opinions on them in all honesty. Quite simply I know what I enjoy and I know what I don’t, it goes as far as that really.

I’m of course on Goodreads so if you want to follow me then you can find me here.

What have you read lately? You’re all tagged to take part in this, let me know if you take part.
