Regular readers of my blog will know that back in October I decided to go back to university in order to study a Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL). Essentially this is a course for those who wish to take a career change into law but at the time do not have the necessary requirements, i.e. a law degree. As you can imagine topping up to a qualification that is recognised at the same level as a law degree (which takes around three years) in just nine months is no mean feat and has been one that I have being battling against every day since October.
Looking back my time management was actually very good, especially at university whereby I studied and worked at the same time as well as running A Little Boat Sailing from my second year onwards and yet still managed to achieve a degree qualification that to this day makes me proud. Fast forward to the present day however I can categorically say that studying law at such a fast pace is leaving me feeling pretty inadequate to say the least. It is hard, unbelievably hard and even though I was told how intense the course would be nothing really prepared me for just how true those words would become.
If you’ve been to university yourself you’ll be aware that you study around six or seven modules a year, let’s say three in one semester and four in the other for instance. The GDL however has you studying seven a week which is quite a difference to my previous degree and has been something I’ve had to try and get used to pretty quickly.
Time therefore has become even more important to me since starting my course and yet seems to be slipping through my fingers by the minute. Days are flying by, weeks fleeting past and before I know it I’ve found myself at the first day of my very first exam which is tomorrow; I’m not exactly petrified but I’m a little nervous to say the least. I’m not now exactly sure where I was going with this post; I guess it was just an insecure ramble and nerves coming through! Exams have never been my forte; I was most definitely a student that favoured coursework as it allowed me time to be thorough and methodical with my work whereas I’ve never really seemed to get the knack of revision down.
So it’s now too late for my exam looming tomorrow however I have six more come May and June so if you have any pro revision tips knocking around then please leave them in the comments below.
