It has been a very long time since I switched things up in order to finally be at the point of restyling my bedroom. I think the last time I featured any form of update was in my blogging space post a few years ago. It has easily been five years since I had any big changes whereby in that time, in truth, not that much has changed, that is until now. During lockdown I suddenly found that I had a lot more time on my hands, so, in order to be productive, I decided to decorate my room and switch a few things around. I was on a bit of a budget as I am trying to avoid spending too much as I am saving for my own home, however, these few changes have really lifted my mood and how I feel about still living at home.
I re-painted my walls with a fresh lick of white paint as we still had some in the garage and I also had a move around with some of the furniture; this consisted of mainly my bed which I moved to the opposite side of the room. I have a bit more space now which is great, although there are still too many beauty products in my possession which ultimately resulted in me having to buy a second set of storage baskets; oops! My theory is that they will come in handy in my own home at a later date so I didn’t mind this additional purchase.
Of course, the main thing which has dramatically improved my room was the addition of several prints from Desenio*. My room is quite big I would say and given that all of the walls are white, it did look quite empty. I have to say that it wasn’t until I put the prints up that I realised just how empty it had been looking.
The team at Desenio kindly gifted me a voucher in order to pick several prints and frames of my own choosing. All of the prints you see featured here in today’s post are from Desenio and can still be purchased online at the time of writing.
In order to keep things easy, I decided to go with black frames as I already had two prints in black frames so this just made things easier to work with and of course more uniformed. I did consider switching things up and having some wooden frames but in the end, I decided to keep them all the same. Upon reflection, I am glad I did this as I think the end result looks nice and it works with the very minimalist feel and colour scheme that I have in my bedroom.
When choosing the prints themselves I already had a vague idea in my head of what I wanted. I have always admired the line illustrations found on Desenio from afar so I knew that I would like to incorporate some of those into my room. They are in their nature quite minimalist, so, in order to balance this out, I chose a large centrepiece which was busier and more colourful in terms of the design, yet in keeping with my overall theme. I think that this has helped to balance out the main wall.
I picked quite large prints as the primary wall where the three prints are pictured is quite big and also slanted which added more complexity to my ‘putting up picture process’. The frames all came with attachments added on the back to make putting them up so much easier, however, the slanted wall threw in some added complications so, in the end, I resorted to command strips which worked wonderfully!
Along with adding prints to my room, I have also purchased two new lamps, a huge rug (not pictured) and some other nick nacks such as the gold tray above for my skincare. I seem to have a lot of products open at the minute as you can see, the reason being is that a few weeks ago I had a purge of my stash and I felt that some things needed using up sooner rather than later. Don’t worry though, I don’t use all of those on any given day.
Overall I am quite happy with how my bedroom is turning out, there is still some work to do as ideally, I would like to rip up the old carpet and replace with new. Ultimately I would like dark wooden flooring but that is costly and in truth, it is not an expense that I am willing to incur at this moment in time. That being said, small steps have been made and I am very happy with the result so far. The only thing missing is a bookshelf, as some of those are currently just displayed on the floor or those which are still to be read are found in one of my baskets. I am still on the hunt for something to fit the space that I have so in the meantime, this is where they are living.
