There is something that really intrigues me about horoscopes, the Chinese zodiac and astrology. I have always been interested in it and wondered to myself if there really is any truth in it. I love reading my star signs, I am a Cancer having been born in July and in the Chinese Zodiac, I am an Earth Snake having been born in 1989. Each New Year I always read my horoscope to see what the year ahead may have in store for me, I have done for years and of course, this year was no exception.
Here is hoping that luck, fortune and happiness are in store for me in 2020 as I feel like it could be potentially a big year for many reasons. I am keeping my fingers crossed and working equally as hard in order to achieve the things I really do want this year. In the meantime, given the Chinese Lunar New Year 2020 festivities, I thought it would be nice to highlight the celebration by sharing with you a few beauty orientated products to coincide with the Year of the Rat.

Whilst browsing Bobbi Brown a few weeks ago admiring the new collection for the Chinese New Year, I stumbled upon the Chinese New Year Fresh Beginnings Beauty Box (£28) which is worth over £79. It didn’t take long before it found its way into my basket. It is the most gorgeous beauty box housed in beautiful packaging that I am planning on keeping for as long as I possibly can. Inside the box, you will find iconic products from some of the most well-known brands such as Aerin, Smashbox, Bobbi Brown and Origins. I opted to get this box as it was a fantastic way to try out a few new things for a very good price; you know me, I am a sucker for a beauty box like this.
The full contents found inside consist of:
- Bobbi Brown Luxe Lip Color, Neutral Rose, 2.25g
- Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex Synchronized Recovery, 3ml
- AERIN Amber Musk Eau de Parfum, 4ml
- Clinique Moisture Surge™ Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate, 15ml
- Origins Mega-Mushroom Relief & Resilience Treatment Lotion, 30ml
- M·A·C Eye Shadow, Omega, 1.5g
- Aveda Thickening Tonic, 10ml
- Smashbox Travel-Size Photo Finish Radiance Primer, 12ml
I am honestly so delighted with this box and I am pleased to say that at the time of writing that it is still available to buy on websites such as MAC, Bobbi Brown, and Smashbox to name just a few. I have so far only tried the Amber Musk fragrance from Aerin which I just couldn’t resist and it is honestly the most gorgeous scent I have tried in a long, long time. I have already decided to put some pennies away and pick this up for my birthday, or sooner if I can justify it. It is divine.

The second product I ended up purchasing was the Bobbi Brown Jeweled Rose Eye Palette which is only my second ever Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow Palette. I just couldn’t resist this limited edition. It is in the most beautiful gold and red packaging to of course coincide with the Chinese New Year, the red also has flecks of red glitter inside which only enhances the beauty of the palette; I truly hope that I have been able to capture the beauty of this in the photographs.
The palette has five shades, two mattes and two shimmers and one metallic shade. They’re on the warm brown/red spectrum and all complement each other well. The palette is rich, beautiful and extremely luxurious. I am really impressed with the quality of the eye shadows themselves as well and feel that there has been an improvement in the quality since I had my first palette more than five years ago. The shadows feel more buttery and blend easier, although maybe this is just my eye for detail has improved and I now know what to look for.
Overall, it is a gorgeous palette and it is one which, despite having made an attempt to cut down on eyeshadow palettes, in particular, I haven’t minded about adding this to my collection at all. It is beautiful in every sense of the word.
As you can see, there are also several lip products within this post which is rather exciting. They were the free gift at the time from Bobbi Brown when I made my order. They have since gone off offer, although I can see that they have a nice selection of mini’s to choose from when you spend over £55 currently. I received a mini Crushed Lip Colour in Babe, Lip Gloss in Buff and a Lip Pencil in Pink Mauve which I am really quite excited about as if there is one brand which I haven’t used much from before and one which I wish to explore more of in 2020 then it is Bobbi Brown. This is a good start.
What do you recommend from Bobbi Brown?
