Spring is upon us and I could not be more delighted to see the back of the dark afternoons, that’s for sure. Gone are the days of loving winter. I want daylight, daffodils and blue sky. As we have headed into spring I found myself analysing my makeup collection as a whole in order to switch up my routine. Seeing as it is a bit warmer now, I wanted to move a few things around in my collection, therefore in doing so, I came up with the idea of sharing with you three choices when it comes to blusher this season.
My first choice is the Stila Convertible Colour For Lips and Cheeks in the shade Lilium. This is one of the very few cream blushes that I own, and to date, it is by far my favourite. It retails at £18 full price, although you can normally find some kind of 10% off code at Feel Unique (this is where I picked up mine from). Lilium is a nude pink and can at first look quite bright on the skin when it is first applied. All you need to do is blend it out, you can even use your fingers in order to create a natural flush to the cheeks. I like to use the Real Techniques Stippling Brush for this as in truth it is the only brush I have that I think suits this type of product.
This shade is so flattering and it creates such a gorgeous dewy finish; I find it hard to fault in any way, it is a stand out product for me and I would not hesitate to repurchase it. The only thing I would say is that even though it is marketed as a lip and cheek product, I only ever use it on my cheeks. I have never really been a fan of a multi-purpose product and find myself always sticking to one thing or the other. In terms of longevity, it does not last as long as a powder on me, having said that, it lasts through most of the working day and requires just a top up if heading out after work. I have to say that I am tempted to add another one of these to my collection because I have been so impressed.
My second choice comes from one of my all-time favourite brands, NARS. The NARS Free Soul Highlighting Blush was a product that I saw mentioned by Katie Jane Hughes on her Instagram. If you don’t follow her then do so, she is incredible. Now, this was a limited edition product retailing at £24, however, you may still be able to find it online here and there. (I have found it on Net A Porter) For me, this was a product which slipped under the radar for many. It is glorious. and I fail to understand why it wasn’t discussed more widely within the beauty community.
This is where I turn right around on the point I made above where I stated that I don’t use multi-purpose products. However, I make an exception here as a highlight and blush coincide together much better than a lip and cheek product in my opinion. This product is again a stand out for me in the fact that you get the most gorgeous pale pink blush here which looks so fresh on the skin, it reminds me of the colour my cheeks go when it’s sunny but super chilly outside. Combined with that, the shimmer you get off this is like nothing else I have come across. It looks natural, not super shiny, it is luminous, yet there is not a trace of glitter to be found; it is simply divine. I hate the fact that this is a limited edition as I want to be able to repurchase this forever more. Of course with NARS products there is good pigmentation (although this is fairly sheer which you can build up) and it lasts well throughout the day, NARS never disappoint.
My last option for spring is perhaps my most used blush to date. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in the shade Mood Exposure has been used over and over, in fact, I use this all year round no matter what time of the year it is. I have this shade in a little palette and individually on its own as I know that one day I will reach the end of the pan. Retailing at £35 this makes this blush the most expensive of the three, however, it is for me probably the best value for money.
The quality of these blushes, in general, is fantastic. They are finely milled and super pigmented and blend beautifully on the skin. Mood Exposure, in particular, adds a very natural flush to the skin, I wouldn’t call it pink, I’d lean more to a dusty mauve in truth which I think looks so flattering. Again this is similar somewhat to the NARS blush above as this also has quite a luminous finish without being overpowering. When it comes to lasting all day I find that I rarely need to touch this up, it sticks with you and that’s what you want when you’re paying over £30 for a product. Is it necessary, of course not, but would I repurchase it? Without a shadow of a doubt.
